South Indian cuisine: Karnataka

South Indian cuisines are always in exhaustive, weather its vegetarian or non-vegetarian we can find innumerable number of dishes served. South Indian cuisines can be sub classified into 4 different cuisines based on the 4 southern states of India: Karnataka, Andhrapradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerla.


As I'm from Karnataka, i would like to detail you about Karnataka specialities . Whenever i think of Karnataka food the first thing that comes to my mind is Masala dosa with chutney, this dish is not only famous in Karnataka but also has a worldwide popularity. Masaladosa got its origin from karnataka



There are so many oher varities of dosa which includes Kali dosa, Neer dosa ( Which is very famous in coastal Karnataka), Davengere benne dosa and so on. The famous restaurans that serve dosa in Bangalore are Vidyarthi Bhavan, Janata hotel and Udupi Krishna bhavan to name a few.


Apart from Masaladosa Karnataka is famous for its North Karnataka dishes, The North Karanataka meals made popular by the Kamat restaurants are very famous, the Jolada Rotti or Kadak rotti with yengai wtih some butter is scrumptious to have. Akki rotti, Ragi rotti are some of the few other varities of rottis found in this region. These foods are not only delicious but have a great nutritional values.

A sumptuous Karnatka style meal will include uppina kaayi (Pickles), palya, gojju, mudde, saaru, bisi bele bath with rice, some sambar and happala. The sweets include paaysa, obattu, karadantu, chiroti, Dharwad peda and not to forget the famous Mysore pak, theese deserts will complete be in the list of a perfect gourmet. The Karnataka food also has some non-vegetarain foods to offer the Kodagu distict is famous for its pork curry and chicken curries. The coastal areas are famous for its sea food from fish to prawns.
